The Old Cottage Bed and Breakfast

In The Little Bay at the Gateway to the Isles

5.0/5 6 Reviews Add Review

Imagine looking out...

to the wild Atlantic ocean
the magnificent views of the Hebridean islands down the protected Sound of Jura
and on clear days, the islands of Islay, Jura, Scarba, Shuna… the marina village of Craobh Haven… the Lunga estate… and the great expanse of the Craignish peninsula.

Our recently renovated period cottage just south of Oban provides just such wonderful views and this outlook has inspired us to name our guest bedrooms after this archipelago.

The Old Cottage is situated next to Arduaine Garden NTS, close to lovely beaches and is surrounded by beautiful Argyll scenery and nature with nearby islands, hills and mountains.

We are set in beautiful surroundings and offer 4 guest bedrooms, large guest lounge, and a sunny garden.

The walk is short to the restaurant at Loch Melfort Hotel, and there are many activities to enjoy close by including:

  • walking
  • nature study
  • horse riding
  • kayaking
  • paddle boarding
  • island exploring
  • photography
  • visiting the local ancient monuments and castles

Please call us for any questions you may have or check our website for availability.

Darren and Karen have thought of everything – the details are amazing, even down to the organic shampoo and shower gel. Generous breakfast with all kinds of dietary options. They made it seem like nothing was too much trouble. They are such kind people.

Warm welcome and amazing location

What an amazing place – such a warm welcome from Darren and Karen and the most amazing guest lounge/library. Would have been perfectly happy just reading all weekend. This is the perfect location for enjoying the outdoors with red squirrels in the garden and we were lucky enough to see dolphins in the loch.

Our stay was absolutely perfect!

Karen and Darren were fantastic hosts, who went that extra mile to make our stay perfect. Even went out and bought me hot chocolate as I don’t drink tea and coffee and sent us away with some in case our next B&B didn’t have any. Very comfortable and spacious room, great location, good recommendations from Darren as to what to see and where to eat nearby. Many thanks to you both.

Everything about this cottage is special

The old cottage was very special – a labour of love by Darren and Karen. Everything was first-rated. The room and the bay window with the view was lovely, Bathroom, pretty and huge. Breakfast, delicious. Loved those special jams – especially whisky jam! Location was also amazing, next to quiet beach, large public garden and a full-service hotel.
