The aim of mindfulness is to help us wake up to the inner workings of our mental, emotional and physical processes, so we can become our best.
The Mindful Enterprise is a social enterprise that specialises in mindfulness and wellbeing training, to empower people with tools that can improve their mental, physical and emotional health.
We recognise the significance of mental health and wellbeing in the development of children, the healthy lives of families, the vibrancy of our neighbourhoods and communities and the productivity and effectiveness of our workplaces.
To this end, we offer training, seminars and retreat experiences that help unlock human potential and strengthen mental resilience for Schools, Businesses and Individual Consumers!
Our mission is to make mindfulness & meditation accessible, relevant and beneficial to as many children, young people and adults as possible, empowering them to live healthier, happier lives and unleash their full potential.
Our big vision is to have mindfulness & meditation embedded as part of the core curriculum in Scottish schools at all levels and recognised as a fundamental part of workplace culture to promote health, wellbeing and optimum performance.
Mindfulness is our innate ability to be fully present, so we can be more aware of internal and external stimuli, without being reactive, judgmental or overwhelmed by it. Mindfulness is a form of mind training that helps us create space between ourselves and our reactions, so we can choose a conscious and skilful way to respond.
While mindfulness is something we all naturally possess, it becomes more readily available to us when we practice on a daily basis.
Whenever you bring awareness to what you’re directly experiencing via your senses, or to your state of mind via your thoughts and emotions, you’re being mindful. And there’s a strong body of research showing that by regularly practicing mindfulness, we’re changing the physical structures of our brain to enhance health, wellbeing and quality of life.
Meditation is the process of becoming more familiar. It’s not a fixed destination. It’s a mental discipline where we can attempt to go beyond the ‘thinking’ mind and into a deeper state of awareness.
Mindfulness is a form of meditation. It’s a way of attending to our mind, body and the world around us that helps to enrich our lives and those of others.
Contrary to popular belief, mindfulness is not about clearing our mind of thoughts but of training our minds to become more settled, so we can simply observe thoughts without reacting to them all. For many, the cultivation of this skill becomes life changing.
Mindfulness meditation focuses on a number of different supports, including the breath. We can use the breath because the physical sensation of breathing is always there and we can use it as an anchor to bring the mind into the present moment and out of the thinking mind. Throughout the practice we may find ourselves caught up in thoughts, emotions, sounds, etc — wherever our mind goes, we simply guide it back again and again to the next breath and our capacity for mindfulness gradually increases.
Mindfulness meditation encourages us to suspend judgment and unleash our natural curiosity about the workings of the mind, approaching our experience with warmth and kindness, to ourselves and others.
Mindfulness is available to us in every moment, whether through formal meditation practice or being mindful in everyday life situations like mindfully listening to a loved one or having a mindful walk in the park.
As we spend time practicing mindfulness, we gradually find ourselves feeling kinder, calmer, and more patient. These shifts in our experience often generate positive changes across many different areas of our lives.
Through tailored mindfulness training, employees can learn attention regulation and emotional control and develop compassion, self awareness and powers of resilience, which can help transform behaviours, performance and the quality of relationships. The training also helps participants to:
This will result in a focus on working collaboratively to find solutions to problems rather than blame. Empowering ourselves to empower others.
When we teach mindfulness to children, we equip them with tools to build self-esteem, self awareness, stress management, and skilfully approach any challenges in their lives, which will result in the following benefits:
